Does swimming build muscle?

Swimming can improve fitness and building muscle is a side effect of getting fitter. If your aim is to predominantly work on building muscle then swimming will not be as helpful as other activities. The amount of muscle you are likely to build will depend on the way you swim. A casual swim is unlikely to help you bulk up however high intensity interval training workout in the water will make your muscles stronger. In relation to our SwimTrek trips other than events and coaching trips you are not under pressure to workout or swim anymore than you feel comfortable.
